Emmet M. Walsh


Emmet Michael Walsh was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Bishop of Charleston, South Carolina and Bishop of Youngstown, Ohio .

The eighth of eleven children, Emmet Walsh was born in Beaufort, South Carolina, to Thomas and Wilhelmenia Walsh. In 1906 he and his family moved to Savannah, Georgia. After graduating from Savannah High School in 1910, he studied for the priesthood at St. Bernards Seminary in Rochester, New York. He returned to Georgia, where he was ordained a priest by Bishop Benjamin Joseph Keiley on January 15, 1916.
